The Unique Combination of Massage Therapy & Personal Training
I count myself as extraordinarily fortunate. Before graduating from National Holistic Institute' s core program for massage therapy, I decided to enroll into their Advanced Neuromuscular Therapy Program. Let me tell you, it was no walk in the park. It built upon the cores program where we learned massage modalities like; Swedish, Shiatsu, Myofascial, Sports, Deep Tissue, and others. As well as laying a foundation in; Anatomy, Kinesiology, and Physiology. The Advanced Neuro Muscular Therapy Program taught me everything about the body, as well as injuries and illnesses and their pathologies, how to prevent them, manage them, and the corrective actions needed to keep them away, along with the most needed ability, the facilitation of healing. Basically I truly understand the body and how it works. It wasn't long after being in the field of massage therapy that I realized that what was needed to compliment massage therapy was strength and conditioning but I honestly couldn't find any personal trainers near me who knew how to work with injuries, chronic illnesses, or disabilities. All I could find where personal trainers who were all about "No Pain, No Gain", screaming and yelling "Give me another one, one more, one more!". So I decided since I had a background in physical fitness, boxing, skating, hiking, and training in general I would become a Personal Trainer and specialize in, Nutrition, Exercise Therapy, Lifespan Coaching, Strength and Conditioning and that is how you have a Neuromuscular Therapist and Personal Trainer.
My Perspectives
Bring a whole new aspect to becoming healthy and pain free. When you combine massage therapy and personal training you no longer have two modalities working against each other. The massage therapist may be trying to get your hamstrings to relax at the same your personal trainer is having you do 5 sets of deadlifts every week. As a personal trainer and massage therapist I have the unique ability to to put training sessions together to target issues I find on the massage table as well as stop a training session and provide MFT to a trigger point the client may be experiencing so they can continue on in their session pain free. I can provide stretch therapy, like passive range of motion techniques where that would be out of an ordinary personal trainers scope of practice unless they were certified in stretch therapy. As well as discounted packages combining massage and personal training.
All in All
This benefits the clients who are looking for a complete health and wellness program. After all don't we all want to live longer and healthier lives?
